Job Description
Economist
Points Consulting (PC) is looking for an economist to assist with a variety of research tasks on our consulting projects for clients in the fields of economics, economic development, and real estate analytics. Tasks could include each of the following:
- Utilizing statistical tools, best practices, and organizational methodologies to generate estimates and forecasts of a variety of economic metrics
- In collaboration with firm President, research, recommend, and execute new methodologies for acquiring and utilizing economic data
- Assist project team in interpreting micro and macro economic statistics for inclusion in presentations and reports
- Occasionally participating in qualitative data gathering activities (i.e.: in-depth interviews, focus groups, etc.) by active listening, asking questions, and taking notes
- Developing and presenting slide decks for external audiences
- Interact directly with clients via phone calls, emails, and in-person meetings
- Work collaboratively with PC’s team of analysts and our prime and subcontractors
- Progressively work toward project manager skills and responsibilities with guidance of supervisor
- An interest and desire to take initiative when work needs to be completed
- Willingness to travel as needed both regionally and nationally, no more than 20 trips per year
Qualifications
PC is looking for somebody with demonstrable experience in economics. The perfect candidate would have an undergraduate or graduate degree (or higher) in economics, or 3+ years’ experience working as an economist, or both.
Relevant qualifications include:
- Highly proficient with MS office products, particularly Excel, Word, and Power Point
- Functional proficiency with one or more statistical tools such as STATA, SAS, R, Python, etc.
- Experience developing economic models and estimates by merging data sets and applying econometric techniques
- Experience finding and analyzing socioeconomic data from government websites (e.g.: Census, BLS, BEA, etc.)
- Ability to write in a winsome and engaging fashion
- A pleasant disposition and comfort interacting with people from a wide variety of cultural backgrounds

Junior Economic Analyst
This position could either be full-time or part-time, depending on the candidate’s availability. The right part-time candidate may eventually be transitioned to a full-time role. Remote work may be an option in the long-term but the worker must commit to working side-by-side with the supervisor for a period of 6-months to 1 year. Specific hours of work can be negotiated but will need to remain on a predictable weekly schedule.

- Accessing socioeconomic and real estate data from a variety of government and proprietary databases
- Research on strategic and comprehensive planning, land use, planning and zoning, community/economic development, real estate, and related topics
- Participating in qualitative data gathering activities (i.e.: in-depth interviews, focus groups, etc.) by active listening, asking questions, and taking notes
- Producing narrative summary, economic implications, and conclusions based on data collected
- Developing and presenting slide decks for external audiences
- Interact directly with clients via phone calls, emails, and in-person meetings
- Work collaboratively with PC’s team of analysts and our prime and subcontractors
- Progressively work toward project manager skills and responsibilities with guidance of supervisor
- An interest and desire to take initiative when work needs to be completed

- Cleaning, formatting, and manipulating data into tables and charts appropriate for presentation to clients
Qualifications
PC is looking for somebody with strong interest and some past exposure to economics and economic theories. Moreover, the right candidate will have an ingrained desire to understand economic and social issues deeply. For this position, formal education is less important than the right mental orientation and a willingness to learn. That said, preferred relevant qualifications include:
- Proficiency with MS office products, particularly Excel, Word and Power Point
- Experience finding data and information on the internet from root sources
- Functional level understanding of mathematic and statistical concepts (i.e.: Algebra, and Statistics)
- Ability to write in a concise, winsome, and engaging fashion
- Experience finding and analyzing socioeconomic data from government websites (e.g.: Census, BLS, BEA, etc.)
- Equivalent to an undergraduate level understanding of statistics and economics
- Bonus: experience with any of the following software tools: AcrGIS, STATA, SPSS, R, and Tableau
- Double Bonus: any candidates who are certified in GIS and/or real estate appraisers

Job Description
2024 Intern
Points Consulting (PC) is looking for an intern for the 2024-2025 school year with the option to extend into Summer 2025. We are open to hiring an upper-class undergrad or graduate student from any local college or university, including University of Idaho, New Saint Andrews, or Washington State University. PC is involved in a variety of statistical and data analysis on the topics of economics, demographics and housing. This is a perfect role for somebody interested in pursuing a job in consulting, business development, data analytics, or public administration. Fields of interest with the most relevant application include economics, statistics, applied mathematics, accounting, data analytics/science, marketing, and political science/government.
Duties could include a combination of the following:
- Data cleaning, treatment, and development of charts and tables for use in reports and briefings
- Writing, especially on economic and demographic topics
- Researching adjacent business opportunities with guidance from existing PC staff
- Updating our website to show our more recently completed projects
- Social media upkeep. This would include 1-2 posts social media per week (our firm is seeking to double social media output/audience in 6 months)
- General project assistance at discretion of project managers
- Create weekly and monthly reporting utilities for PC Staff
- Assist team in creating a thorough data sources sheet and template for core Housing Needs Assessment projects
- Help with researching staff time tracking options, and then implementing into our project management software (Clickup)
- Support for project managers at local and semi-local (within 100 miles) events and client on-site meetings
- Updating current systems to be ready for use in 2025
We are looking for a team member who can work 10 to 20 hours per week on a consistent schedule over the duration of the school year. Most work will need to be completed from PC’s office at 120 N. Line Street in Moscow, Idaho but occasional remote work would be permitted. PC will provide a computer, monitor and other office equipment. Training will be provided by PC’s existing staff. PC would work with school schedules during the Fall and Spring semesters of the 2024/25 school year. Lastly, PC is willing to work around occasional breaks and holidays, as needed.

Points Consulting (PC) is looking for a business development representative to assist with proposal writing, technical sales/demos for data products, and occasional marketing and customer service tasks. Our firm is growing, and we need the capacity to pursue business opportunities as they arise.
Tasks could include each of the following:
- Research on specific organizations, municipalities, planning documents, and regional economic/housing landscapes for use in proposals to prospective clients
- Conduct initial outreach to potential clients to set up product demos and conversations with higher level sales staff
- Technical writing to promote products, describe our company’s past experience/ qualifications, detail project scopes of work, and occasional content for marketing ads or LinkedIn Posts
- Demonstrations, promotions, and support for data products and clients
- Occasional advertising or media posts on Facebook, LinkedIn, or other social media platforms
