We work with municipalities, nonprofits, private developers, economic development organizations, and special taxing districts across the United States with a particular emphasis on rural and small/mid-sized metropolitan areas. More specifically, our work includes comprehensive planning support, economic/fiscal impact analysis, housing needs assessments & action plans, market studies, feasibility analyses, strategic planning, and public policy solutions. Position Overview
Points Consulting is seeking a Community Planner with 2–6 years of relevant experience to support a diverse portfolio of planning, economic development, housing, and public-sector consulting projects. The ideal candidate loves facilitating community meetings, distilling that input, and developing workable action plans for communities. The successful candidate will contribute to client engagement, research, quantitative analysis, technical writing, and public presentations across a wide variety of projects. Typical projects include comprehensive plans, housing action plans, economic development strategies, zoning and development code updates, feasibility studies, and strategic planning efforts.
The successful candidate will have opportunities to grow into project management, client management, and leadership roles as the firm continues to expand. Candidates with backgrounds in planning, public policy/finance, community development, real estate, economics, or related disciplines are encouraged to apply.
Primary Responsibilities
Responsibilities may include:
- Facilitate community engagement activities including stakeholder interviews, public workshops, town halls, focus groups, and other outreach efforts.
- Support project management activities including client communications, meeting coordination, deliverable preparation, scheduling, and internal project tracking.
- Thorough review of community planning resources such as Comprehensive Plans, zoning codes, and land use plans
- Developing informative maps and infographics with assistance from the research and design team
- Interpreting demographic, housing, economic, and land use trends to identify opportunities, challenges, and planning implications
- Researching and evaluating planning policies, development regulations, housing strategies, and implementation tools to support client objectives
- Contributing to the preparation of technical reports, planning documents, recommendations, presentations, and other client deliverables
- Conducting site visits and field observations to better understand local development patterns, infrastructure, and community character
- Traveling periodically for client meetings, workshops, conferences, and field work (generally less than 20 trips annually)
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in urban planning, public policy, public finance, urban studies, real estate, community development, or a related field
- 2–6 years of relevant professional experience in planning, community development, economic development, local government, consulting, housing, real estate, public policy, or a related field.
- Excellent written communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear, concise, and client-ready reports and recommendations
- Strong presentation and facilitation skills, including experience communicating with elected officials, stakeholders, and members of the public
- Demonstrated ability to synthesize quantitative and qualitative information into clear findings and recommendations
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities, multiple project assignments, and deadlines in a fast-paced consulting environment
Preferred Qualifications
- AICP certification or eligibility to obtain AICP within 12 months
- GIS tool experience (such as Esri ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, QGIS, or similar mapping and spatial analysis platforms)
- Experience with topics such as: housing studies, economic development planning, strategic planning, comprehensive planning, or zoning and development code update
- Demonstrated experience interacting directly with boards of elected officials and planning commissions

Economic Analyst Position Overview
Points Consulting (PC) is looking for an economic analyst to assist with a variety of research tasks on our consulting projects for clients in the fields of higher education, economic development, workforce development and real estate analytics. Remote work may be an option in the long-term, but the worker must commit to working in the Moscow office for a period of 6-months to 1 year. Tasks could include each of the following:
- Accessing socioeconomic and real estate data from a variety of government and proprietary databases
- Research on strategic and comprehensive planning, land use, planning and zoning, community/economic development, real estate, and related topics
- Participating in qualitative data gathering activities (i.e.: in-depth interviews, focus groups, etc.) by active listening, asking questions, and taking notes
- Producing narrative summary, economic implications, and conclusions based on data collected
- Developing and presenting slide decks for external audiences
- Interact directly with clients via phone calls, emails, and in-person meetings
- Work collaboratively with PC’s team of analysts and our prime and subcontractors
- Cleaning, formatting, and displaying data in tables and charts appropriate for presentation to clients
- Progressively work toward project manager skills and responsibilities with guidance of supervisor
- An interest and desire to take initiative when work needs to be completed
- Willingness to travel as needed both regionally and nationally, no more than 20 trips per year
Qualifications
PC is looking for somebody with strong interest and some past exposure to economics and economic theories. Moreover, the right candidate will have an ingrained desire to understand economic and social issues deeply. For this position, formal education is less important than the right mental orientation and a willingness to learn. That said, the preferred candidate would have an undergraduate degree (or higher) in economics or a related discipline, or 3+ years’ experience using socioeconomics to deliver insights, or both. Relevant qualifications include:
- Proficiency with MS office products, particularly Excel, Word and Power Point
- Experience finding data and information on the internet from root sources
- Functional level understanding of mathematic and statistical concepts, at minimum (i.e.: Algebra, and Statistics)
- Ability to write in a concise, winsome, and engaging fashion
- Experience finding and analyzing socioeconomic data from government websites (e.g.: Census, BLS, BEA, etc.)
- Bonus: experience with any of the following software tools: ArcGIS, STATA, SPSS, R, and Tableau
- Double Bonus: any candidates who are certified in GIS and/or real estate appraisers
Educational Background
We are not looking to hire primarily based on educational accomplishment. That said, educational backgrounds with relevant overlap with this role include: economics, finance, business, statistics, public policy, economic/community development, and regional planning.
